iPhone 14 Pro Max in Kenya

The iPhone 14 Pro Max was launched in September 2022 alongside the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Plus. Pre-orders began on September 2022, and the devices were made available on September 22, 2022. It landed in Kenya in November 2022.  The iPhone 14 Pro Max 256GB is available at City hub at Ksh.133,000.

Design

The iPhone 14 Pro Max this year brings about a more significant redesign in the inclusion of the Dynamic Island, a new design that introduces an intuitive way to experience iPhone — and the Always-On display.

Display

The iPhone 14 Pro Max 6.7-inch sizes, the models include a new Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion that features the Always-On display for the first time ever on iPhone, enabled by a new 1Hz refresh rate and multiple power-efficient technologies.

The advanced display also brings the same peak HDR brightness level as Pro Display XDR, and the highest outdoor peak brightness in a smartphone: up to 2000 nits, which is twice as bright as iPhone 13 Pro.

The iPhone’s display also supports a wide color gamut, HDR10 and Dolby Vision video standards. The panel has the Dynamic Island pill-shaped cutout. It is protected by Corning’s Ceramic Shield, which appears to have an oleophobic coating for enhanced smudge resistance.

Camera

The Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max has a total of four cameras – three on the back, one at the front. And while their logic and operation seem quite like what the iPhone 13 Pro duo had, all but the telephoto camera have been improved in various ways.

The primary camera of the iPhone 14 Pro Max has seen the biggest update. It now uses a 48MP 1/1.28″ sensor with a Quad-Bayer color filter, a first for the iPhone. The camera has a 1.22µm pixel size before binning – 2.44µm with binning. It’s coupled with a 24mm f/1.78 lens. There is also second-gen sensor-shift stabilization, as well as full-focus pixels.

The high-res main sensor enables a new intermediary zooming step of 2x in the camera app, by cropping from the middle and AI-assisted upscaling. High-res 48MP RAW shooting is also available additionally to the standard 12MP RAW mode.

There’s a new 12MP sensor for the ultrawide camera, too. It’s a 1/2.55″ unit with large 1.4µm pixels and should deliver sharper images with more detail and improve on macro shots.

The selfie camera uses a 12MP 1/3.6″ sensor again, but it now comes with a brighter f/1.9 aperture on its 23mm lens and supports autofocus.

Battery and Storage

The iPhone 14 Pro Max has a 4323 mAh battery, which is actually lower than the 4352 mAh of the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max’s battery lasted 12 hours and 40 minutes–about an hour longer than the iPhone 13 Pro Max–when we ran the Geek bench 4 battery test. And the iPhone 14 Pro Max lasted 3 hours and 43 minutes longer than the iPhone 14 Pro–that’s 30 percent more battery life from a battery that is 35 percent larger than the smaller iPhone 14 Pro.
